In person, you have about seven seconds to make a first impression. Online, less than a second. Your Instagram bio is one of the first things people see when they click over to your account. It should draw people in and encouraged them to follow you. What first impression does yours make? Let's head on over to Instagram and make your bio pop.
00:22:
As you can see, the first thing you see when you click into my account is my bio. That's the thing that really pops out and makes me want to find out more about somebody, so there are certain things that should be in your bio. Number one, try to include some sort of keywords for your career. Are you an actor, a dancer, a singer? Keywords are actually not searchable on Instagram for your bio. However, people are used to seeing keywords across social media, so they'll help people key in on what you do.
00:58:
Next, you want to tell us something that makes you unique, or what you're passionate about, and what you're passionate about can be something in this business or something outside the business. You don't have to make your bio all about acting. You want to have some brand recognition across your social media platforms, so while you're writing this Instagram bio, I urge you to look at your other platforms, and look at your Twitter bio and pull some key words from it, pull your passions, what makes you unique from your Twitter bio.
01:29:
Now, if your Twitter bio needs work, I have a great article that will help you write a fantastic Twitter bio for your career, and the link is in the description below this video. So, start with your Twitter bio and bring that over to Instagram. Consistency can be key to helping people recognize you on multiple platforms and sites.
01:50:
All right, let's go in and edit my profile. You can see how to add spaces and fun emojis. Now you can see my bio right there in the middle. If you're in an apple device, there's no place where I can get to the return button, so I can't push something to the next line. The way I do that is I actually go into my notes. When I'm in my notes, I can hit return, I can go to the next line, I can add spaces, I can add any kind of emojis, and emojis are fun on Instagram. They're definitely okay to use. It's the language of the platform. Just make sure that you keep them on brand for your career.
02:34:
Then what you're going to do is you're going to select this, copy it, and we're going to go back into Instagram, and then you're going to copy and paste it right here. Hit done, and your Instagram bio will be nicely spaced out. It will include your fun emojis, and it will show us who you are and make us want to follow you.
