READING FOR THE PROS
Howard Fine Acting StudioReading for the Pros is a five-week workshop that gives 14 to 18 actors an opportunity to work on two paired scenes (generally one comedy and one dramatic scene) that will be presented to three different, highly regarded, and experienced Casting Directors.* Reading for the Pros focuses on bridging the gap between acting training and the "business" side of show business. Rather than an "audition" opportunity, the class provides students with an opportunity to receive constructive feedback from the casting directors, which is then reviewed, reinterpreted, and re-worked with the instructor in order to be the most helpful in improving the acting and auditioning experience. While each session has different guests (schedules subject to change based on availability), previous guests have inclued Deb Barylski, Bruce Newberg, Todd Sherry, Paul Weber, and Ronnie Yeskel. The first two weeks will focus on the rehearsal and coaching of scenes chosen by the instructor, to highlight each actor's specific strengths and unique qualities. The last three sessions will have the actors presenting the work for the casting directors (one casting director per class), who will give suggestions and adjustments for each scene. The remainder of each night's class will utilize the feedback and go back into rehearsal to prepare for the following week's session.
