DIRECTING FOR ACTORS
Larry BiedermanA favorite course among actors who often consider it a better acting class than...an acting class! Directors and actors take the course together, breaking down their craft into new but basic principles that demystify the communication between director, actor, and audience--enhancing that collaboration to more fully execute the vision of each piece presented. DIRECTORS present up to three self-created pieces, each exploiting specific principles: PICTURE, ACTION, RHYTHM. These principles are then synthesized into scenework and a final evening of scene presentations which best exemplify the creative growth of the class. Directors develop quick skills, sharp insight, and vigorous practice. ACTORS get extensive experience, coaching and feedback since their craft is the director's most important tool and their work is the best expression of the director's investment. BOTH ACTORS AND DIRECTORS learn new ways to grow and evaluate their own work with high standards and greater objectivity. Learn WHY your audience does or does not perceive what we believe we are expressing! Fees for the class include instruction, additional rehearsal time (and space!) and a one-on-one consultation with Biederman observing one of your rehearsals. Actors pay a nominal fee in exchange for their commitment to the directors' work.
