Hey what's up all I have been googling around and decided why not post here. So I'm an cartoon artist and I want to start a youtube channel doing documentaries about sports/entertainment celebrities. I have already completed the drawings/cartoons for several documentaries, one about Lebron, one about Elon Musk, but I have so many more ideas that are on queue. I mean in the end I'd like to partner with a trustworthy person and share in the profits from the youtube videos we make but to start off I would understand the voice over actor wanting to be paid so that is totally cool with me. If you are interested in celebrities and sports I'd love to chat and maybe we can work together.

Where to find diverse voice actors?

Where to find diverse voice actors?

Posted on May 4th

I know this question might sound weird, especially because voice acting is an art form that doesn’t require the actor to show their face, but I think it’s important to have a voice actor that matches the character and can understand them better. Luckily I have a lot of time to figure this out (I’m no where near the casting stage of this project) but it’s still frustrating. The problem I’m running into though is that it’s very hard to find voice actors that fit certain demographics. If I search up Nigerian voice actors, I just find a bunch of people doing Nigerian accents with no background. And then maybe three people who actually fit the description. And if I try to search something up less well known, like earlier today I was trying to find Yup’ik voice actors, basically nothing comes up at all. I know that logically when looking for specific people with specific backgrounds, the pickings are going to be smaller. But it seems ridiculous that I can only find like, three people voice acting for a population that is in the thousands, all with internet access. Is there somewhere else I could find people? Or somewhere else to be looking? A better way to search? ANY advice is appreciate.

Is it legit if a casting director reaches out to you?

Title says the basic question: So, I self-taped for an open casting call, and submitted a first audition, alongside a headshot and CV. For the record, this was on Backstage, and I know some people have very controversial opinions about that website. But moving on, now I’m in the second round of auditions, and the casting director reached out to me directly letting me know I’d made the cut, and sending me the script slides for the next round. I looked online for his name and production company, and everything else checks out. If I double-triple-quadruple checked him out, is this normal? I’ll quote his email below: Good afternoon [REDACTED], I just want to introduce myself quickly, as I am usually busy casting with other projects outside of [REDACTED] Productions. I usually have someone reach out on my behalf. My name is [REDACTED] and I am the head of [REDACTED]’s casting, and have been in the film and TV industry since the age of 5. You may be asking yourself why I would be reaching out to you directly. After having had your information sent to me, I was very impressed by not only your profile, but also your drive, as I don’t see that passion from a lot of actors. I would like to ask you myself if you would be interested in continuing your audition process for [REDACTED]. If you still are, please reply to this email as soon as possible, and I will send you the slides as soon as I can.

Normally I would start working ASAP but I feel discouraged because… a) there’s a statement about “offer only” / “meeting only” actors (I am not at that stage) to communicate that with the CD…which indicates they will probably go with a name b) they want partial nudity for the role I’m auditioning for which I don’t feel awesome about c) the script is not very good tbh. I AM GRATEFUL FOR EVERY OPPORTUNITY ANDDD there are times where I wonder if others relate to this. Thank you.

Broadway VS Hollywood how are the expectations and standards different among industries.

Broadway VS Hollywood how are the expectations and standards different among industries.

I feel like Broadway is much more exclusive and as a result more competitive. It almost feels like a pedigree. I just think of the people on Broadway who have taken unending performing lessons since they were 3 from dance, to movement, voice, improvisation, the modeling and headshots, having to learn music theory. It’s like training to be a pro athlete or an Olympian. Having to exercise your voice in addition to your body. Hollywood is a lot more looks focused, you don’t always have to have model caliber looks, but your appearance has to give a distinctive impression. As noted in the series, No Small Parts, an actor like Michael Jeter isn’t a super model (or remotely ugly if you ask me) but his general look conveyed a specific kind of character. I almost see this with voice too with actors like Jennifer Tilly, Kathleen Wilhoitte, or Glenne Headley. Those actors get a lot of work because they can work a role exceedingly well. What do you think is some interesting Food for thought about what both industries demand from actors?

Commercial Audition Casting Breakdown Help?

Commercial Audition Casting Breakdown Help?

Could someone give me a quick refresher of how casting for commercials work? I’ve done a few non union ones, but have never really truly understood the process and now that I have an agent, I’d like too. So the casting office calls you in and they audition you, then they send the audition tapes to the advertising agency and the ad agency narrows the favorites down for callbacks, and then the actual company (example Best Buy), picks the final choice based on those callbacks? So the actual casting directors are sort of like the middle men and they pick who gets called in based on headshots? And then they deliver the news to the chosen actor at the end of it? I’m in Los Angeles and I audition for both union and non union commercials, if any of that info matters.

Good day actors, I am a filmmaker from Montreal, and even though I have a few short films under my belt, I feel that working with actors is by far my greatest weakness. I would like to know from your point of view what you think are the best ways for a director to work with actors. What are the dos and donts that you've seen directors do. What is helpful to you and what do you feel is a waste of time? Basically, what do you wish directors did more, and what do you wish they did less? And not just on set, but everything from the casting call to the premiere. Thank you for your help!

Who are the very best acting managers in NY?

Who are the very best acting managers in NY?

Posted on May 3rd

Hi guys! I’m an established actor (re-occurring on a huge streaming series), and still having trouble securing good representation if you can believe that baloney. People keep telling me that its because I’m not a 19 year old hot chick. I would have thought more doors would open after my third year on this series, but very few reps in LA seem motivated to talk with me and the ones that have… well they couldn’t get me an audition at an open casting call if they tried. So I’ve decided to pivot to NY… I love NY and figure my schtick may fly a little higher. I think I have a look that’s less CW and more a dude trying to hustle you in a back alley card game anyway. So, I’m looking for a new manager and wanted to know if anyone had a list of NY managers that are truly great, have a good reputation and are worth their salt? I ask because the last NY manager I had ran off with my cash, in retrospect that was my bad… the track marks on his arm should have been a red flag. Thank you so much! Appreciate whatever insights you all share!

So I'm thinking about doing a bit of a career switch and moving from film production into acting. A lot of my work that I do is in Bristol, UK and was wondering how the acting gigs are over there? I know some people say that London is the place to be for it but I don't think I could live in London - I've grown too attached to Bristol. Any pointers for a newbie actor making a transition from one career to another?

Best Kept Secret is an erotica brand that focuses on audios for women (mostly so far but planning to expand this in the future) to enjoy, read by men. We do scripts ranging from Victorian romances to more BDSM style stuff. We are looking for someone great at acting, pacing, getting in the mood, dirty talk and creating sexual tension and of course with a sexy voice + a decent mic. You MUST be comfortable with NSFW material and over 18 of course! At the present we can pay up to $400 per hour of raw audio for the right talent. Typically we start at $125/hr to establish a working relationship and then increase it from there. But like I say it is really dependent on how our audience reacts to the content that determines this initial rate. Past erotica/NSFW voice acting experience is great but not a necessity at all. We add the SFX and editing, it's just the raw audio you would be required to perform (no post or extra production essentially) To audition, please submit a 2-3 minute sample (including both SFW and NSFW segments) through this form [**HERE**](https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1yf1OWelXKCmswf_Y5G_ERUjrpxtUI5wn9sR8mJhZLJQ/edit). You need to provide a MP3 or WAV sample of the attached script in that form. Any other questions about the process please DM or email me at [rob@yourbestkeptsecret.co.uk](mailto:rob@yourbestkeptsecret.co.uk)

Dressing to look younger for audition?

Posted on May 3rd

I'm a male actor in my mid-late twenties, and tomorrow I have an audition for a teenager (around 15y/o). I can pass as a teenager sometimes, depending on what I'm wearing. E.g. if I'm wearing a t-shirt and shorts people often read me as 15-17 or so, but if I'm dressed more formally, e.g. button-down shirt and nicer trousers, people usually guess 18-23. Question: for the audition, should I dress more casually with a young-looking t-shirt and shorts or jeans, or should I go more formal since it's an audition (for a fairly well-known professional theatre company)? Is it worse to come across as too old or too casual/unprofessional?

I'm currently taking drama and I'm learning methods on how to deliver on camera, loosing myself up, etc., but I wanna know what I should do once I graduate. I've looked into acting schools but I've seen from multiple sources that casting directors won't even acknowledge you unless you went to a top-of-the-line school, and I haven't even been able to find any schools that would be considered one of those. Basically, I just wanna know from any experienced actors what options are ideal for me to look into. Should I take acting classes on the side while going to college? Or should I focus all my time into acting if I wanna take it seriously? If anyone can help me out, that would be absolutely wonderful. Thanks! P.S. I hope everyone here is able to accomplish their dreams and find a gig soon! :)

Can I really become an actor even with an extremely problematic past?

Posted on May 2nd

When I was younger I was a very problematic toxic teen who didn’t really care about anything other than what directly benefited me. I didn’t know proper healthy boundaries and I sexually assaulted my ex-partner without fully realizing the extent of my actions and the drastic impact they’d have on the person and their life moving forward. Obviously I was publicly shamed and scrutinized, things like this just aren’t acceptable human behaviour, it’s painfully cruel. I have spent my days trying to better myself and trying to be a beacon of good. I like to believe I’ve made progress as my ex doesn’t seem to hold a resentful grudge against me anymore. Frankly I’m just glad they’re happy and have found someone that can give them the proper love and respect they deserved in our relationship. Moving on and pursuing my passion of acting seemed to be the most reasonable next course of action but with how the media is and people always scooping up gossip I was wondering if it was even possible for someone like me with a notoriously bad past reputation to even have a chance in the acting field? Would I just be blacklisted and turned away? It’s not that I’d want something like this to stay hidden to the public eye, rather I made a critical mistake in my youth and I’d want it to not define the rest of my life.

auditioning for david auburn’s Proof. help me decide between monologues?

auditioning for david auburn’s Proof. help me decide between monologues?

Posted on May 2nd

good morning all! apologies in advance for a monologue post. i’ve done research but am too indecisive to decide amongst my options. i’m a stage actor who’s been out of practice for a few years — i can’t sing and i’m not funny, so roles that fit my type are far and few in between, lol. recently a local theatre posted auctions for Proof, and i’m super excited about the role of catherine. i think i fit the type — i’m about the right age and think i can handle the material. because the auditions are this week, and i haven’t had a monologue in my back pocket and can’t read full plays (like i normally would) to find something appropriate. i’ve included details below on the show/character i’m auditioning for, the descriptions of the monologues i’m considering, and the pros of each monologue. especially for those who are familiar with Proof: could you help me decide which would be most appropriate? i’m really looking to nail this audition. Short plot summary: Catherine has inherited her late father’s mathematical brilliance, but she is haunted by the fear that she might also share his debilitating mental illness. Catherine – (F, 25). A college dropout, she has spent several years at home caring for her mentally ill father. Their relationship, although sometimes antagonistic on the surface, was sustained by strong mutual affection. Although she is a highly intelligent woman, she has no direction in life. Catherine is worried that she may inherit her father’s illness, and the signs of mental instability are already there. i tried to look specifically for shows/monologues that dealt with mental illness and being directionless, but none really fit the bill, especially with the time limit (both on the monologue and time until the audition). first monologue: from Thalassa by Scott Sickles. early twenties woman reflecting on how she was supposed to be on the same boat that her husband-to-be died on. i think it’s good for the anger and the lack of direction, but not sure the emotions that accompany a romantic loss is similar enough to that which catherine experiences (familial loss). second monologue: from Quasars by Jennifer O’Grady. early twenties woman paying penance, assigned by a catholic priest to help a man whose wife is dying of cancer. i feel like this one is good for it’s relation to science and philosophy, but i’m wondering if there’s enough emotional “meat” in there to be able to impress the director. third monologue: from Honour by Joanna Murray-Smith. mid-twenties woman speaking to the younger woman her father left her mother for, reflecting on her sense of self and childhood. i think the theme in this one best reflects that of catherine’s mental state in Proof, but i’m struggling to connect to this character despite having read the whole play — this monologue feels a little out of place. are any of these appropriate? should i keep looking? [here](https://imgur.com/a/6ZfzqJ5) is a link to screenshots of all the monologues, but if this is not allowed, please let me know and i’ll delete. i really appreciate any guidance anyone can give. thank you all!

And I want to be able to act in the plays/musicals we’ll be having next year too. So I ask, how do you guys do it? How do you not forget? How have you not blanked on stage? And if you have, how quick have you recovered from it? Is there a trick? What am I missing?

I know there are both completely different and have nothing to do with each other but medicine provides certain comfortable pay where as acting dosent but acting just seems far more fun and like a hobby and not just a job . I checked online and it seems that only 2% of actors make a living just to sustain them selves. So if you guys found your self in a similar situation and had to make a decision in the next Few months what would you do? Take a degree that will guarantee you good pay but may leave you upset or risk it and go for something you like doing but could really put you in a tight situation.

Basically I'm black and have the least amount of singing and speaking than the rest of the cast. I have about three short singing lines while everyone else has entire songs or multiple phrases. I'm a soprano so it's not like I'm a bad singer. The white people have the most spoken and singing lines as well. There is one black role which has a song that's very soulful and has a clear blackcent that still hasn't been casted yet after two weeks. I have a feeling the older white woman who wants it badly will get it. I don't want to seem whiney cause you get what you get. I don't think the directors were consciously like "she's black! Give her less!" It's just really weird how I have far less than everyone else despite the theater preaching "inclusiveness" all the time. It's a professional theatre so I don't want to seem selfish or a diva for not getting a lot so I'm hesitating. Anyway should I drop? Tldr: I'm black and have the least amount of roles/lines than the nbpoc and white actors. Should I drop?

Hey! Looking to see what is appropriate to put on an acting resume before I put it on. I was in a film that was nominated so far for the Sundance Film Festival's Grand Jury Prize, won the Aspen Shortsfest Jury Prize for Best Comedy which makes it Oscar Qualifying, and won the Florida Film Festival Special Jury Award for Comedic Storytelling. I think those things are pretty cool haha and I feel like it might be beneficial to mention them, but they aren't like specific awards I myself won as an actor, they're just the awards a film I was in won so I'm not sure if they'd be appropriate to put on my resume. So, would any of those be appropriate to mention on my resume, would some be appropriate while others not so much, etc.? Thanks for any insight!

So I am probably jump in the gun here with a slew of things. However, I have a project I a quite Serious about ( three years deep) and would like to see Succeed. I have multiple artists. Crafting my idea into physical form, I have all of my character designs (Not all as They are still currently being worked on) and a manga Artist currently taking what I have out of my (loosely Cobbled together script) (Not even in the correct format of what the script is) and fleshing it out. Etc... With all that being said I am potentially looking to have some voice actors do a little bit of voice acting (shocking I know right) I am building or attempting to build it with us known as a pitch Bible as I would maybe like to present this to the company once everything is completed. (Again I’m jumping the shark is might be like 5-10 years down the road) But I am just tossing this idea out here. r/WeaponsRemorse is my sub reddit. There is no art placed there or anything of the sort yet. As I would likely need to get everything copyrighted as I don’t want my ideas stolen… Again jumping the shark. The age range voices I am looking to cover are 8-10 yrs old (female), (female) 14, (male) 19 (female) 23 (female) late 30s-40s (male) 16. now I currently have three pages in a manga style being made right now so I would only need about three voice actors. To cover this one so far.. Anyway sorry for the wall of text. But I’m trying to convey this in a somewhat professional way. I would be willing to pay for your time. Or if you would be willing to volunteer that would be great as well... Thank you for your time and again sorry for the wall of text You can respond here or via DM

am I doomed?

am I doomed?

Hi everyone! Names Billy I'm 31 years old. I feel so behind in my life. Ever since I was in high school I wanted to come to LA and act. I'm actually here in la now and still have yet to try to be a actor. My whole life I listened to everyone but myself. I have done everything besides act and I have been homeless 3 to 4 times throughout my life. I went on backstage got a membership and uploaded a old headshot from 3 years ago. But I'm noticing they also want cover letters and reels and I want to go to school out here but can't afford it out here. I was wondering if I'm doomed? I plan to go to school for underwater welding in July and I'm hoping by next year I can live out here to actually try and pursue it. I know with my dedication and hard work I can do anything. My work ethic is crazy. I just feel that it won't happen because I'm not as youthful looking as I once was.

I’m a 21 yo guy who’s an aspiring actor. I haven’t done any acting before really, but do intend to start soon. I plan on starting by acting out / reenacting movie scenes with my sister (who I recently found out likes acting also) to get over the fear of being on camera and just start the process on getting experience, in SOME way. I would like to know if you guys had any specific movie scenes you think would be good for this first time. Thanks.
