Hi All, I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for databases for film duologues? I'm an irish actor and I may be getting signed by an American manager. Long story short I want to put something on tape to send to them which Ill shoot in an american accent just to demonstrate my ability for american projects. Does anyone have any advice? Best wishes!
They can work in animation or video games, but basically, who in American voiceover acting today do you feel have a large variety of voices for a large variety of different characters today? As an aspiring actor, I'm very interested in the concept of "character acting". Specifically, how (voice) actors can find characters that vary in circumstance, personality, appearance, morality or so on. And how this affects the type of voice you'd use. Who are voice actors who have made a name as great character actors? I'd love to see how they go about their craft. It would be great to hear your choices to learn about how they go about their craft!
Hi! I'm planning to move to NYC in August - probably Manhattan or Brooklyn. I'm also planning to start submitting for VO and audiobook narration projects. I'm a trained actor with an agent - just haven't booked anything yet. My agency also has a VO department. And I'm applying for a VO mentorship program through Penguin. So for now I feel pretty solid about my performative / technical skills, and industry connections and am not looking for advice on those fronts. What I'm worried about is creating a home studio. I'll most likely have a limited space with a lot of outside traffic noise to contend with. NYC VO actors with small apartments in noisy neighborhoods ... can you tell me about your home studio setups? I've been looking at little mic isolation boxes (like the kaotica eyeball and similar things), full on portable/collapsible recording booths, and I've also considered padding the inside of a closet assuming I can get one that's big enough to stand inside of. I figure I'll end up with something that I need to set up and tear down for every recording session, and that's fine - but mostly I just want something that's going to work. Thank you!
A rich 20 something who’s worked with some of the hottest music producers (to mediocre but above average success) and is decent looking (not brad Pitt but not hideous) He doesn’t have to worry about auditions not working out because he has money to fall on but he does take his acting craft seriously because he works with a coach.
I am a new non-union actor without an agent and recently got cast for a guest star (1 day) role in a low budget indie drama series. The producer then sent me a pdf of Talent Agreement form and asked me to sign and email him back. However, there’s a field in the form to fill out my social security number. I am always skeptical when it comes to writing down my security number on a form. Is it a common practice to ask for the (not represented) actor’s social security by producers/management agencies? Should I give it out?
I'm just curious, but are there any voice actors who started out as voice actors and then went on to become famous on screen actors (perhaps through their voice acting experience)? It just seems like it's more common to see it happening the other way around where people start out as on screen actors, become really famous, then do voice acting. So I was just curious about if there were any people who that happened with.
So I got an audition from my agent on ecocast (YAY!!) so it says I got a request for the audition but when I keep reading it says - offer only names. Soooooo I'm not a named actor or anything but.....I mean....do I still do it? I feel dumb if I respond and ask my agent like yo you sure you gotta the right person?
Do you absolutely need an agent? I know there’s such thing as open casting calls but where can I find legit verified and serious people looking for actors? I guess what I’m asking is what is the standard that most casting agents/ directors use to seek talent?
That's all :)
In the slow times when auditions aren't picking up I'm going to film my own stuff. Anyone have any recommendations for decent cameras in the 1,000-2,000 range for stuff I can submit to film festivals etc.? I'm got 10 imdb named supporting, lead roles, a good number of commercials, A SAG south central and another sag east coast agent. One lead role on amazon, but I live in the south and it gets dry sometimes. I don't live in Georgia so I think this is the best so far before I jump to Georgia or los angeles. I've had friends that had decent success making their own material and using it for reels or to show their work.
My cousin recently told me he was going to be a voice actor. Which got me thinking, and then curious. I wonder if I might like doing this? When was your moment that had you saying, “This is what I want to do?”
Hi I live close to LA and I really wanna know what its like down there especially for actors! do you have any tips!? recommendations? Ive focused on NYC for a long time when LA is closer to me. Please do drop any tips you have! I have one. THE HEADSHOT TRUCK! I plan on going there when I can!
Any Vancouver actors out there familiar with the following agencies? Premiere Talent, Leo Management, KC Talent, Ignite Artists Anyone have any feedback or experience to share? Are these considered reputable?
The show basically takes place in the future, ranging from a few years in the future to several decades. Almost every single episode (exception of one) is a one-man-show with Name actors in a singular set. The acting is phenomenal, with interesting stories that have a lot of heart. Seems like a phenomenal resource for monologues as much of the episode is a monologue. This is a limited series on Amazon Prime- 6 episodes I believe? Anyhow, I just wanted you guys to know about it, I think some of you might really like it. I’m really enjoying it so far!
Hi, Everyone, I am an actor in the UK and I'm moving to live in Madrid in July. I shall maintain a base in London for UK work but, obviously, shall be looking for work in Madrid. Can anyone recommend agents or other contacts in Madrid? For film, TV, theatre or radio. Thanks. [Home - www.andrewmcguirk.net](https://www.andrewmcguirk.net/) https://preview.redd.it/c9qg1zrn7c271.jpg?width=5543&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f94be967050027acfe7a813b01de0c923c91cd29
I know some movies have even been made with iPhones and they look good. An example is “Tangerine” And I want to do it myself instead of hire an expensive demo reel studio because IMO, it’s so overpriced for only *one* scene to be shot. I went to acting school before but I quit after graduation many yrs ago so I don’t have credits. I’m starting over after 15 yrs And I also know because of my race and gender and age and weight (Chubby, short, medium dark skinned unattractive 36 yr old Mexican American woman)I will struggle more than others to even get hired in a student film to have any credits. Or I will be cast as a stereotype (maid, nanny, background actor) or be asked to speak Spanish when I don’t know Spanish. I know my type outside of biased stereotypes, and I love to write scenes. I was born in America and my first language and ONLY language is English. But my face and look will make biased writers and directors never even consider me for all-American roles. If bias wasn’t an issue I know I would be great at playing an older, angry or stressed out mom or woman, or dark and twisted woman, because of my intense look. Someone said once I have shark eyes. Focused/intense and scary basically lol
https://voca.ro/11qzUoBpz1bY So I’ve been considering doing voice acting as a hobby, however the biggest issue that I’m facing at the moment is that I don’t necessarily like the sound of my own voice that much whenever I hear it after being recorded. I’m pretty sure that’s common with most people, but my main point is that I wonder what I sound like to others, because I tend to think it sounds a bit too high and nasally every time I listen to it (I’m an almost 18 y.o. cis male) but you might not think that however. So I decided to share an audio recording of myself reading “The Rainbow Passage” and I would like to see what you guys think. How old you do think I sound and what sort of gender does it come off like to you? Do I have any speech impediments or a weird accent of any kind? Does my voice remind you of any other actor/person you know of? Would you already consider it to be innately suitable for this industry or not? I’m sorry if I sound insecure about myself, but I’m just genuinely curious to hear some advice and feedback from the more experienced fellows in here. I apologize for any mistakes in the file, but thanks for listening anyway.
Hey, I’m trying to find a scene to do for class for me and a female actress. She said she wanted to a scene that doesn’t involve any sex/romance. As a male actor I though it’s gonna be easy. Turns out, it’s fricking hard ! Almost every scene that have male and female is romantic. We might just do a scene with her and another actress and even if it’s all-female scene it’s very hard to find something that disconnected from above topics. Anyone have any scenes to recommend? I’m looking for: Addiction Death Parent/child relationship Brother/sister Sister/sister Money issues Got to be from a movie or a play. Personally I started to really feel bad for my fellow actresses. I love so many plays like Amadeus and Hamlet and golden boy and all my sons and I never realized that for the most part the female characters are very shallow or used as a sexual object or always in a relation to male characters. If you can recommend me on plays that wrote females characters better (meaning? Like actual people !) I would love to read them.
Any advice for an actor considering moving to LA? If you have made the move, how did it go for you/was it worth it? I know there are a lot of things to consider!! Also, any resources for living situations with other actors— communities for actors ? :) thanks!
I was just wondering about whether or not I would have to do theater work (aka plays of some kind) in order to make it as an actor because I personally don't really want to do that and rather just be in movies/shows/whatever but not in plays, does anyone know if I would inevitably have to whether I want to or not or can I just aim for acting in movies?
There was a thread Thursday asking what has improved our acting most and I replied that a big part of what has made me better over the last year is my self-tape practice. I do one every day I don't have a booking, a real audition, a class, or a cd workshop up to six times a week. Yes I am a freak that has been doing the Audrey Helps Actors #SelfTapeMay challenge +2 since late last July. lol /u/crazyacting asked where I get my material for that and the original thread is off the front page now so I thought it might help more people to just start a new one: I look up established actresses in my casting range on IMDbPro and Google to see if I can find the scripts for stuff they were in when they were around my age. You can find a lot of pilot and movie scripts that way for free. Showfax has stuff too. Another resource for finding series regular material is /u/WinonaPortman's 2017-2020 pilot season lists. Look up the actors and then Google the pilots for the ones in your casting range. You can usually find the ones that went to series for free. My main guest and co-star casting is in procedurals and single camera comedy so I look for individual episodes of those kinds of shows that had at least three parts for girls in my age range below the series regulars. If there is a series regular in my age range, I will tape for that too if I am not already super familiar with the show. Then I order them in bulk from the Hollywood Script Shop if I can't find them for free in the proper format. Something else you could do if you have others to work with is to Google individual episodes for transcripts that you can put in the proper script format to create sides for each other. You can get almost everything that way. For me it would be cheating to do that for myself because the reformatting would get me off book in an unrealistic way. Come to think of it (facepalm) I could have saved some money by doing it that way and giving myself time to forget about them if I had known I would still be doing it ten months later. lol Please chime in if you have other methods.
I submitted for a role on Actors Access a few weeks ago and never heard back so I assumed it was a no-go. I'm a newbie actress so I'm not picky, I just move on. It's part of the game. I'm just happy I am finally in a position where I can do this. Well, I decided that since I haven't been hearing back from any CDs here in NYC, I might as well put a pause on submitting until I am fully moved out to LA in mid-July. Previously, my thinking was "well if I get cast in anything, nothing is booked and I can just postpone my move" but it was getting closer and closer to my self-imposed date so I just went ahead with my plans. I haven't looked at anything since. To my surprise, I got a text from AA yesterday saying I had an Eco-Cast opportunity. It was that role, saying they liked my look and wanted me to send them a one minute monologue. I want to audition for this, it seems really cool! But the professional thing to do is to decline because I know I can't be there. Painful as I've been waiting my whole life to be on a stage/in front of a camera but also, I know this won't be the last time! It's just part of being in this industry!
It's one thing if actors coming-up-the-ranks are making podcasts - good for them. I just wish I could get insights and wisdom from podcasts where actors that are top dogs and A-listers share their secrets/wisdom/tips/advice. I have co-stars, recurrings, guest stars, but I would just love advice from truly up -there actors. Please God make Leonardo DiCaprio or Michael Shannon or Frances McDormand suddenly decide to do a podcast.
Hey folks, sorry if this has already been discussed... I searched and didn’t find much. I’m a professional actor and my depression has really gotten out of control lately. My therapist has wanted me to consider meds for over a year. Until now I didn’t want to... concerned that I will lose emotional availability blah blah blah. I’ve been on St. John’s Wort for over two months and it doesn’t seem to be helping. So does anyone have experience with acting while on meds for depression? Which meds? Thanks.
I live in Toronto and I don't know what to expect when it comes to auditions in Toronto in terms of audition locations. I am aware of the skype, zoom and self/pre-recorded auditions What I would like to know is, where are the auditions for professional/legitimate shows & movies held here in Toronto which you have to physically attend ? If you feel comfortable enough, please even tell the location/building you had an audition in. In my mind I would love to believe that its either at the CD's office or on-set location, but I know there has to be other locations, so please share your information,it would help out myself and others who im sure are wondering the same thing but too afriad or dont want to be called stupid for asking. (ill take the bullet for this one, you can call me stupid) I've tried researching audition tapes, but there was absolutely no way of telling where they are. Are they in random hotel rooms, studios (pinewood), CD's house/office, agents office, random office.?
I am asking for my cousin who suffers form dyslexia and would like to start acting. She was going to start in amateur theatre with the local amateur theatre group, but worries that dyslexia would hold her back. What are the chances of being a good actor despite having dyslexia?
Guys I read stanislavski’s An Actor prepares and now I’m finishing Building a Character but I’m confused by it. Honestly this is starting to feel like a chore for me.. I enjoy studying acting but it’s taking me hours to read and take notes for these books and I can’t even understand really what he’s getting at. It’s like I spend an hour taking notes on a chapter and I come away with only a small idea of a bigger picture.. there has to be an easier way than reading his books to get at the meaning of what he’s saying... what’s the next step or next book I should read from stanislavski after building a character? Plz help is there any one book that’s best to end my readings of his books? Please help
Hi r/acting, I'm not a huge reddit user so forgive me if there is a more appropriate place to make this post... but for any actors based in Toronto, I'm wondering what your thoughts are on the agency Noble Caplan Abrams. I've heard they are reputable but also kind of harsh. I submitted to a bunch of agencies earlier this week and got a response from them and a couple of others, so I'm just wondering if anyone has thoughts on them. Much appreciated :)
I am very new to acting, have only done about a dozen beginner night classes a couple of years ago. This time, getting back into it, I want to take a more holistic approach and develop different parts of myself, physcially and mentally. Especially while waiting for classes to start. My old feedback was predominantly my voice and posture. My voice though, is not going anywhere. I'm a male in my late 20's and have been very quiet my whole life and not shown much emotion. My voice is throaty/nasaly, very croaky and soft (regardless of time of day or what I eat, it's just my standard voice). I practice reading monologues and articles, sometimes read a book out loud though my throat gets sore within around 10 mins or less. I try focus on using my chest or even my stomach to generate voice to try get away from my upper throat (default). It doesn't seem to do anything but I'm thinking like using 'hidden' muscles in the gym, eventually, after thinking about them for a few days/weeks, you start to feel them and become controllable. I am trying to figure out how to develop my voice to be more strong, deep, have colour. I know it will take lots of time to get that, but I don't know how to even break out of this croaky, bland voice I have now and I'm concerned about doing things wrong and either hurting my throat or simply being extremely unefficient and wasting time. I suppose the extra concern is because I feel there's a million obstacles to overcome to even be 'up-to-speed' to the 'average' day 1 beginner. I have so much developing to do it's overwhelming.
I quit 15 yrs ago because for me, the uncomfortable truth in my past experience was the immediate limitations for me due to race. Back then 99% castings were only for white people. It didn’t even make sense because some roles were minor roles like “girlfriend” or “friend” and race made no sense to focus on. It wasn’t a a period piece or a biopic on a White person. It was minor roles, even in student films I also remember soon after reading that Latinos only get cast 2% of time despite making up 16% of the population. I was upset about it but I kept trying daily to read through endless casting notices hoping it would saying “seeking racially ambiguous” or “open to all types”. But nada. I know hispanic groups have tried to get hollywood to stop focusing on race so much Eventually due to many personal problems + the endless scrolling on backstage and other places that resulted in zero opportunities, I quit Well I’m a 35 yr old hot mess looking to return once my life is more together. I know my age alone will hinder me, but I’m praying things are better race wise? Or am I gonna have it just as bad as 15 yrs ago, endlessly scrolling and getting nowhere?
So currently I’m about to be in my senior year of college and I didn’t start acting until I got to my college. I’ve always wanted to act throughout my life but I never had the chance to really do it until now and according to multiple professors, students, and many community members I’m really good at it and won actor/performance of the year this past year (don’t worry I don’t have a big head, I’m still humbling myself). I want to get serious about acting but I’m not sure where to go once I graduate with all the acting credits I currently have. I want to go to film school to get better at acting but I don’t know where would be the best place for me to go to school at to get better. Any advice for someone from NC who’s serious about pursuing an acting career? I’m already contempt with have a 9-5 job while trying to get acting roles in the future, I’ve been working since I was 16. And I’m contempt with the likelihood of my career never taking off but my mom told me I gotta do something now when I’m young cause I’m going to deeply regret it when I’m 45 and missed an opportunity of what could’ve been. I know it’s a big dream but what’s the point of it if you’re not gonna dream big.

As a background actor, what are the most important information to showcase on my resume?
I'm gonna be 100% upfront here - I'm not bringing my mic or any equipment with me to audition while I'm on vacation. Anecdotally, I don't know anyone else who does this. Musicians don't do this. Dancers don't do this. Actors don't do self-tapes on vacation. We need our rest, especially professional voice users. I plan on taking my rest days. Now if I'm spending a month in France, then yeah, I'll bring my gear, but for weekends or even week long, I don't see how potential clients can't hear if I'd be good for their spot by listening to my demo. Or current clients can't plan for my vacation by sending me stuff ahead of time or postponing. So for those who don't audition on the road, how do you tell current clients, agents, or potential clients that you're gone fishing?
I wanna be an actor but I am young and scared to tell my parents. What should I do?
Hi everyone, I'd love some feedback on my reel for anyone interested/willing to critique. It's not much—I'm basically restarting my career after being a child actor—but I'd appreciate opinions on it. Please comment here as opposed to on the video :) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVjpBESj6Lk&feature=youtu.be](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVjpBESj6Lk&feature=youtu.be) Thank you!
Central Casting has started onboarding new background actors. It will probably be very difficult to make an appointment for some time, but I imagine it will get easier over time.
hi this is about if a dumb question and I know that it really doesn’t matter if one person calls your acting terrible, but I feel like this may help someone else so I’ll post it anyway. basically I submitted a very short acting video to a fun not professional project on TikTok (if you’d like to get involved dm me ☺️ and I’ll ask the project coordinator if you can join) obviously we aren’t professional actors with years of experience and this project is just for fun. but some people comment on our videos, and I guess they have a right to voice their opinion, that the acting is terrible and that these actors should never be cast in anything. obviously what a 32 year old man thinks about some kids acting shouldn’t be taken to heart, but sometimes you read this and it does hurt a little and it makes you doubt if you are even good at acting. because you put your heart into creating something and you chose to be vulnerable. I’m not saying to lie and tell actors that they are good when they aren’t. anyway, I was just wondering if anyone has experienced people telling them that they’d never make it or that they shouldn’t continue acting because they are bad, and how did you overcome it? I haven’t even had acting classes yet so really, I don’t know why I am making such a big deal lol, but thanks anyway. and I know the acting industry is cut throat and people judge you and everything, so I guess this is kinda good in building my resilience. but another thing is, what if they are right? that you actually just aren’t cut out for acting? but then again acting is a craft and not an inborn skill right? So anyone could be good if they tried? I also know that you can’t please everyone (: anyway, that’s a lot. thanks for reading if you did.
Use this thread to post your headshots for feedback, get info on your age range/type, find good headshot photographers, ask any questions you may have about headshots. If you are posting a DIY headshot for feedback, and not just a snapshot in order to get feedback on your age range/type/etc, it is advised that you do at least some basic research on what actor headshots look like--composition, framing, lighting. You will find a Google Image search for "actor headshots" to be very helpful for this. Non-professional shots are fine for age/typecasting; please keep in mind that one picture is a difficult way to go about this. Video of you moving and speaking would be ideal, but understandably more difficult to post. For what it's worth, the branding workshop at SAG-AFTRA recommends a five-year age range. That's inclusive, so for example 19-23, 25-29, 34-38, etc.
Doing some research, have you or anyone you know requested a voice actor to say something or send you a message a la a live stream or #cameo I’m working on a project and need some opinions on ppl’s experiences good or bad.
Hi guys looking for DBZ voice actors - preferably any of the main characters from the show. Please send me a demo of your impression either response on chat or dm Will pay if end up commissioning Thanks!
I have a quick question before I speak or email a SAG rep, Thank you in advance for any replies. **tldr: S**hould I immediately leave a NU project if I joined SAG midway? Storytime I started reading the sidebar during quarantine and got involved in some NU projects and paid modelling gigs. Then by January I joined SAG, *Thank you* /r/Acting *by the way.* Since then I've been only on SAG projects full time *but* there's one NU project that still hasn't completed (15 months in production now, I was cast 8 months ago) I like to finish the things I start, and frankly thought most of filming would've been done by now. So I figured, if I have to do a bit more, till Feb, maybe March, I could slide it through, Blame it on COVID delays sort of deal, Maybe a contract with ultra low budget. It's now almost June and it's been a nightmare. Eye opening bad compared to SAG treatment. Looks like the director is a bit of a snake but the rest of the cast and small crew has been great, and I honestly have to thank them all for the free Acting training class we were able to put together during quarantine in Central Park. It was all in prep for a short film but yeah, Typical NU story. I'm 80% about to walk away, and looks like most of the cast is too. Thankfully the delays meant that I haven't done much besides rehearsals, zooms, training, work outs and chats since January for this project, (My scenes were mostly done in the winter) So I don't think I've broken any SAG rules just yet. I've already been pushed from actor to stunt choreographer on paper. And I'm asked to reshoot my fight scene sometime July with a brand new actress because the previous one got cut because Director is shady? Can someone give me the 10-4 to 86 this shit so I don't feel as bad?
I’m sending out submissions to agents and my two friends who read the cover letter are saying that I sound so formal. In my head all that matters is a very short introduction about me “my name is, I’m from and I live in” and then write a couple of sentences about the biggest projects I’ve worked on. Link to reel etc. They say my personality doesn’t shine through and it doesn’t look like I’m sending it specifically to them, but rather mass emailing. The second part I do really want to work on though, because I truly have done my research and I’m submitting to like 40 agents that I have picked out of like 300. But I don’t have a specific reason for each one of them. Perhaps 10 of them because they represent actors in the both comedy and drama genre. 10 others because they have every ethnicity in their rooster aside from mine. And of course, all of them because their clients actually are working. I do have a good resume and while I’m not aiming too high but not too low either. I’ve already had an agent several years but I just felt like it was time to move on! Also, how the hell is my personality supposed to shine when everywhere I read agents saying to keep it short. Is there a great way to keep it sorts but also make it look like they’re not just one out of 40 agents I’m sending out to?
As I move closer to graduating from college, I am worried about and also focusing on devising a plan to move out of my state and start an acting career. Do you guys have any advice for after college? Even before graduating, what are some steps I can take to build connections and find a job(I'm in SC right now so opportunities are very dry) ?
Hey folks, just a fair warning: make sure you check your Casting Networks page to make sure it's working correctly ASAP. The update made profiles have all kinds of problems and lock people out of thier up to date profiles, on the actor and agent sides. I'm missing out on a fairly large audition that I just received that is due TOMORROW at 9 am (my team received it at 8 pm tonight for context) through CN and I cannot access the invitation to get the sides. The helpline for LA Casting and Casting Networks are both not answering either. This business...you can do everything right for years and see nothing from it, but the one thing you slip on (not making sure the service you pay for...works) completely dry fucks you at the first chance. But we are supposed to be thankful to just even be in the room. Sorry for the rant at the end but I'm shaking I'm so mad. Hope this post saves someone the same fate.
So, Im a newbie pft Im 23, from Spain, I always liked the idea of acting, I did some plays in school and high school, but I knew that didnt have much real future oportunities so I just went for my second passion: motorsport, I had some friends that studied arts and one of them actually got big and forgot about us (as usual) Soooo, after 5 years studying mechanics I graduated, got a job and covid said hello, everything fell down and I got fired, and after so many months I didnt had any jobs, I randomly got an opportunity to be an extra in a show so I took it and went great, met some people and some famous actors and I decided I was going to give it a try, I got an audition for netflix and Im waiting for more to come that I already signed for, people tells me its going so so fast and I had zero acting experience, any advises? (Im broke I cant afford acting classes)
I’m looking for a voice actor to do certain grunts and shouts similar to that of Minami Takayama, Fujiko Takimoto, etc. If you’re unfamiliar with these VA’s, I’m basically looking for people who can replicate voices of characters like young Link from the ocarina of time series, Billy Hatcher, Kakeru, etc. (Basically the young boy protagonist that does nothing but shouts) No talking or lines needed outside of grunts, the list of needed chants will be provided! I’m looking to pay $12/sec of clips but willing to negotiate a flat rate for a set of sounds. I only need about 20s-30s of sounds. Please pm me if interested or have any questions, thanks!
I’m from a small town in Montana and we are actually really arts oriented. We have several community plays and even a pretty decent standup comedy scene. Since about eighth grade, when I attended a play at the high school I now go to, I knew I wanted to be an actor. Or at the very least, be involved in the arts. When I did my first show my freshman year, that only solidified it. Then I decided to branch out into standup and realized that I was pretty good at that. However, because of where I live, you never hear of people who go on to become actors. It doesn’t happen where I’m from. But, at lunch yesterday, we somehow got on the topic of what we wanted to do when we left high school. Most of my friends didn’t have answers, but I decided to be honest. “I want to move to LA and become an actor.” I was expecting some form of ridicule or something from them. Even a playful jest, but that didn’t happen. They all kind of went, “Huh. Good luck.” It wasn’t expected, but it was great to say that and really mean it.
I really want to pursue voice acting as a career and while playing around on Websites like casting call club and behind the voice actors is fun, I want to get to a point where I’m hired for an actual gig. I have a microphone and all but don’t know where to look to get REAL DEAL gigs. I’ve taken quite a few classes with a personal vocal coach as well as a few acting classes with someone in the industry and I just wanna try and dip my toe in a little. So I’m curious what was your first voice over gig and how’d you get it?
I have dedicated my whole life to being an actor and used to make a living out of it by having on average one role per month and doing some background work and other jobs related to acting. I have been taking acting classes for more than ten years and know a lot about the business side of show business. But now, I haven’t had any roles for months and I struggle to find something as simple as background work. (Even though I should have priority with my union). I keep asking teachers and acting coaches what I could be doing wrong and no one has an answer to that. I see so many people who haven’t worked as hard as me and have pretty average skills work much more than I do. (and I am talking about people who just freeze when we have to practice something in class or don’t even know their lines and are always late for example). Sometimes, I am overqualified for some jobs and they take a non union beginner who looks just like me. (And when my union found out about that, they agreed that it didn’t make sense and shouldn’t have happened). I am also losing tons of job opportunities because of COVID restrictions that make some non union actors work more than professionals. I am not saying that the industry owes me anything, but I hate how it is so much out of my control. I am not perfect either, but I expected to have achieved much more things with all the work I have done. What the hell am I doing wrong and what can I do if it still doesn’t work when I do everything right?
